Part 4

It was at this stage I started to consider the wiring for the lighting. My aim was to have the following:-
The two front side lights, two Headlights and the Spotlight.
Rear Side Light.
Front and rear Destination Panels
Passenger Interior lighting.
Rear Number Plate Light

My first job was to work out the circuitry for LEDs.

Proposed wiring for all lighting

I had already decided the batteries would go in the engine compartment and be accessed via a hinged radiator. Obviously I then had to consider where to put the circuit boards to hold the current limiting resistors and where to mount the switches. All of these needed to be hidden so as not to detract from the model.

I chose to use the front roof space above the engine compartment for the circuit boards and have the 3 slide switches mounted so they could be accessed from the panel above the engine. This meant they were hidden behind the nearside canopy but still easy to get at.

I was aware that once the model was finished access to the circuit boards would be impossible so I had to make the panel the circuit boards and switches were mounted on hinging to open down over the engine. Hopefully you would never need to get at the component boards but although it would be fiddly it would at least be possible.

The interior passenger lights were mounted underneath a luggage rack. My next job then was to produce the rack to the correct profile and drill ready for the LEDs which if pushed through the hole just exposing the rounded end look just like the old bulbs.
